4 INTRO TO SUSTAINABILITY CARD SET
NOMA FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIP summer ‘22

In the summer of 2022, I was awarded the chance to be part of the NOMA Foundation Fellowship’s fourth cohort. This opportunity matched me with one firm from a selection across the country for an 8-week internship. I was paired with LS3P’s Raleigh, NC, office. Upon meeting with the firm, I was given the role of “outside researcher,” tasked with executing material research and analysis. I focused specifically on one of their elementary school projects, which was in the schematic phase at the time.

Through the loose guidelines provided by LS3P, I primarily strived to identify carbon-intensive products that were being implemented and find alternatives. Besides my main objective, I had free reign over how I wanted to go about information gathering and what I wanted to research. As a set of deliverables, I created a presentation regarding my research and produced a two-pack card set called “Intro to Sustainability.” These decks contain all the information I gathered, putting them into a form in which they can be easily transported and displayed. The topics covered on the cards include key definitions, focus materials, alternative materials, and implementation strategies.
